The city\u2019s slogan \u2018Manjar de Reyes\u2019 (Food of Kings), recognizes the city\u2019s historic connection with the Catholic monarchs Fernando de Arag\u00f3n and Isabel de Castilla. No one can deny that the regional cuisine is certainly fit for royalty. Le\u00f3n took over the title of Gastronomic Capital from Huelva, beating some competition from the city of Cuenca and many others. Here are just a few of the reasons why the judges decided to name\u00a0Le\u00f3n as the winner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Its variety of local dishes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le\u00f3n has an extensive variety of local dishes that are representative of the city itself as well as the wider\u00a0Le\u00f3n province. These include\u00a0<em>cecina<\/em> (salted dried meat),\u00a0Valde\u00f3n cheese, <em>botillo<\/em>\u00a0(a type of sausage), and Bierzo roasted bell peppers. Le\u00f3n\u2019s proposal also had the support and commitment of world-renowned Spanish chefs such as Juan Mari Arzak, Mart\u00edn Berasategui and the Roca brothers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also in Le\u00f3n\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Getting to know Le\u00f3n through its cuisine is a great way to get acquainted with the city and the\u00a0Castile-Leon region.
